Ascend Analytics President Gary Dorris will teach power industry professionals how to use the tools of risk management to optimize hedges and increase profits at SNL Energy’s Power Risk Analysis Workshop Nov. 9-10 in New York.           

            Dr. Dorris’s hands-on session will focus on using risk management as an active business tool, illustrating step-by-step skills with actual examples drawn from working utilities. The session will include lessons on how to best deploy generation assets and use dynamic hedging to reduce uncertainty and increase cash flow.

            SNL workshop organizers hope to attract power industry analysts in market and credit risk.  Dr. Dorris is one of five instructors speaking at the event.

            Dr. Dorris co-founded Ascend Analytics in Boulder, Colo., providing data analysis infrastructure to the power industry. Products including PowerSimm and CurveDeveloper help integrated utilities, merchant generators and retailers manage energy portfolios to minimize risk. He holds a PhD from Cornell University and has served as an expert witness in energy industry litigation.
