Senior Optimization Modeler

As an Power Systems Optimization Developer, you will be responsible for advancing software solutions and analytics to support the clean-tech power revolution. Your strong analytical skills and ability to develop innovative problem-solving solutions will support mission critical decision analytics for renewable and traditional power providers around the globe. Responsibilities will include developing models for electric energy portfolio management, modeling optimal dispatch with both perfect and imperfect foresight, and decision analysis for electric resource planning and policy. We're looking for talented individuals with a serious commitment to energy system modeling.


Job Responsibilities/Accountabilities:


Solve complex analytic problems to make mission critical decisions for energy supply by:


  • Translating client requirements into model formulation
  • Implementing robust optimization models for real-time dispatch, hydro optimization, renewable integration, storage operation, and energy portfolio planning
  • Providing expertise to clients in the areas of analytic modeling of physical and economic interactions.


This position also involves computational stochastic optimization, approximate dynamic programming, large-scale/distributed optimization, decision making under uncertainty, dynamic programming, statistical learning, algorithms in statistics and finance applications, stochastic search, simulating high penetrations of wind and solar energy, optimizing generation under uncertainty, and planning and control of energy storage.


Must Have Skills & Knowledge:


  • Optimization methods and commercial solvers (Cplex, Gurobi, GAMS, etc.)
  • Experience in Python programing
  • Knowledge of structured programming
  • Ability to communicate with impact and confidence both verbally and in writing
  • Pro-active self-starter
  • Strong interpersonal skills, teamwork skills and work ethic
  • Interest in learning about and deploying novel software solutions
  • MS in Operations Research or Power Systems


Preferred Skills & Knowledge:


  • Experience in production software systems
  • Knowledge of relational databases
  • Monte Carlo Simulations
  • Energy trading or production cost modeling
  • Time series modeling and advanced statistics
  • PhD in Operations Research or Power Systems
